    • 1). Stitch your foundation chain with the crochet hook. It can be as long or short as you like, but it needs to have a multiple of five stitches. If you haven't done this before, start with a chain of 15 or 20 stitches.

    • 2). Arrange row one. Switch the loop from crochet hook over to the knitting needle. One by one, continue pulling up each loop with the crochet hook and putting them on to the knitting needle. As you pull up each loop, you'll find that you need to pull slack from the skein of yarn through the loops on the knitting needle, or the loops will not fit on. By the time this row is finished you should have the same number of loops on the knitting needle as chain stitches from Step 1.

    • 3). Stitch the first half of the broom stitch. Poke the crochet hook through the first five loops on the knitting needle, keeping the loops on the needle. Yarn over the hook, and pull that thread out from under the loops. The loops need to stay on the needle. Yarn over, and chain one stitch over the loops, then pull this group of loops off the needle. Work five single crochet stitches around the top of the group.

    • 4). Stitch the second half of the broom stitch. Poke the crochet hook through the next five loops on the knitting needle, keeping the loops on the needle. Yarn over the hook and pull that thread out from under the loops; you should now have two loops on the hook. Yarn over and pull thread through the two hooks on the crochet hook for the first of five single crochet stitches. Continue working the other four single crochet stitches. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until all the loops on the knitting needle are used.

    • 5). Repeat each row until desired length is complete. Always keep the same side face up, pull the all the loops on the knitting needle in the same way that you did in Step 2. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 to complete each row.
