Nuclear Green Energy Is It the Answer

Green energy has been a conflicting issue debated back and forth by many in terms of sustainability and affordability. Recently, many have come to the realization that nuclear power could be the answer to the sustainable energy crisis, as it is now being considered a reliable source of true green energy.

Americans and other nations around the world have protested against the use of fossil fuels. The people want a greener source of energy. This has caused a lot of other energy sources to gain attention; primarily ethanol, and wind power. However, in terms of affordability, these sources are not the best options when it comes to security.

Nuclear energy is the most affordable and green source of power. For unknown reasons, the public and those higher up are not comfortable embracing it. Delays are constantly being made against the energy source, increasing the cost of nuclear plants, and destroying the options of newly made projects.

In fact, just one plant is being developed within America. Other countries are far ahead of us. For example, a multitude of other countries are generating more than 50% of their electricity using nuclear power, while America only generates 20%.

When it comes to the tiny details, there are many beneficial facts pertaining to nuclear energy to be taken into account. Nuclear plants release zero harmful chemicals into the environment. They also, on average, take up several hundred acres of land. One nuclear plant that takes up a few hundred acres can supply energy for up to 2 million residential homes. Nuclear waste is also removed by professionals in a safe environment, recycled in order to present new fuel for the reactor. The amount of waste actually disposed and not reused is very little. In the time of one life span, disposed fuel only fills a single bottle.

Another thing to consider when looking into green nuclear energy is the efficient and extreme safety measures plants follow. No deaths can be accounted for in America due to nuclear plants. Compared to the massive amount of deaths that were due to an oil extraction incident in 2007, this should be a fact that relieves many. Not to mention, in industries that use coal, thousands of workers have fell ill to extremely severe cases of respiratory diseases.

Until nuclear energy is deemed marketable by the people who are in charge of regulating it, it's safe to say that legal issues and delays will continue to thwart the process of embracing this new reliable green energy source. Hopefully within the recent future, we will see a better acceptance and understanding of nuclear energy, and begin to make some progress with maintaining our environment rather than destroying it.
