E-book Markets

• Several popular e-book markets exist that include Android applications so you can read the same book across different platforms. Amazon's Kindle e-book store can be accessed from a dedicated Kindle e-book reader but also from a computer or via the Kindle Android application. Google Books, Barnes & Noble Nook and Sony E-Reader Editions all include Android applications in addition to other eBook reading options. Simply download the app to your Android device and then grab the books you've purchased to read on your phone or tablet.
  
  

Public Domain Books

• When a copyright expires, books and other works of intellectual property move to the public domain, which means that they become free to use and distribute. Public domain books in the e-book standard ePub format pioneered by Adobe can be loaded onto your Android phone for use with any ePub-compatible e-book reader such as Aldiko or Overdrive. Load eBooks to the folder on your Android's SD memory card labeled: "eBooks/import".
  
  

Adobe Digital Editions

• Adobe is the creator of the popular computer file type: PDF, which allows for the distribution of electronic print in a secure manner on computer. The ePub file type is the e-book equivalent of the PDF file. Adobe offers the ability to buy e-books through its Digital Editions software. To get a purchased Digital Edition of a book onto an Android phone the ePub file needs to be downloaded and then saved over to the Android's SD card in the "eBooks/import" folder. You are only allowed to use the Digital Edition on your own devices and only allowed to have the e-book on up to six devices.
  
  

Library Lending

• Many public libraries allow for the borrowing of e-books through the ePub format. The Android application OverDrive allows for the download and reading of e-books lent from libraries straight from an Android device. After you download the app you can select your library and enter the login information provided to you to browse and download e-books. The lending security built into ePub books means that they will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. A limited number of e-books are available so you might need to place a hold and wait for the e-book to become available to download to your Android and read.
