How to Figure Out Your Hair Texture
- 1). Shampoo and condition your hair. Comb through it to get out any tangles. Do not apply leave-in conditioner or any styling products.
- 2). Examine your hair in the mirror. If it looks shiny, even without added hair products, then your hair texture is likely straight and fine. If it looks dull and lacks shine, the texture is likely coarse or porous.
- 3). Time how long your hair takes to air dry after you shampoo and condition it. If it takes more than an hour, it means that your hair is thick. If it takes less time than that, it's fine or thin.
- 4). Examine the curl pattern of your hair. Small, tight curls or large, loopy curls both signify standard curly hair. If the curls look like corkscrews, your hair has a kinky texture. Curly hair tends to be frizzier than other hair types.
