Bulimia Red Flag - One Sign to Look For If You Think Your Child is Bulimic

With bulimia, there are normally two different ways that people will get rid of the food they've ingested.
By purging (vomiting) or by using laxatives.
When I was a teen, I purged.
I didn't do this every day to start with, it was gradual, but for me it was easier to hide than using laxatives.
You are in the bathroom much longer and more often when you use laxatives.
Purging only takes a second and that's it until the next round.
To my way of thinking back then, it was much more efficient.
However, there are downsides to purging.
One, if you didn't have one before, you'll develop a very bad gag reflex.
It could even get to the point where you "think" of purging and your body will just follow suit.
It took me only about 6-8 months before I got to this point.
(I'm not bragging, I'm just stating a fact!) But before that, I needed to stick my fingers down my throat to induce vomiting.
The warning sign I want to tell you about in this article is to look at your child's knuckles.
Do they have cuts, bruises, or scars on them? Think about it...
If they are going to put their fingers into their mouth and induce vomiting, there WILL be times when the teeth are going to involuntarily close on the fingers.
Especially at the beginning, before they learn to control the purging with their minds.
As an adult researching this subject (after all, before that I only knew what "I" tended to do, not anyone else) I learned that many people have to stick their fingers in their mouths for a much longer time than I did and some never learn to induce vomiting without it.
So it bears watching out for cuts or bruising on the knuckles, and even scarring going forward.
Parents, watch your kids.
Even the "good" ones do develop eating disorders.
If you know about some of the "bulimia red flags", hopefully you will be able to get them treatment before the behaviors go on too long.
