How to Copy Songs to My iPod Shuffle
- 1). Launch iTunes, Apple's free application for managing your iPod Shuffle and listening to music. When you used the iPod Shuffle for the first time, you were instructed to download iTunes and install it on your computer.
- 2). Connect the iPod Shuffle to a USB port on your computer with the included iPod Shuffle USB cable. An icon of the iPod Shuffle will appear in the left pane of the iTunes window.
- 3). Click on the icon of the iPod Shuffle, and then click the "Music" tab in the iTunes window. Click the "Sync Music" checkbox and then click "Entire Music Library" to automatically copy your entire music collection. If you select "Entire Music Library" and there isn't enough room on your iPod Shuffle to copy it all, you will see a message that says the iPod can't be synced because of insufficient capacity. It will ask you if you want iTunes to create a selection of songs that will fit.
- 4). Click "OK" to have iTunes copy the selection of songs it chose to your iPod Shuffle. Otherwise, click "No" and then click "Selected Playlists, Artists, Albums and Genres" if you want to automatically copy a selection. Then click "Sync."
- 5). Click the "Summary" tab at the top of the iTunes window if you want to copy songs to the iPod Touch manually. Click "Manually Manage Music," and then click "Apply." Click on a single song in your iTunes library to select it, or click on a song and then hold the "Shift" key on the keyboard to click and select multiple songs. Drag songs onto the icon of the iPod Shuffle under "Devices" in the left pane of the iTunes window. The songs will copy over to the device.
- 6). Click on a playlist in the left pane of the iTunes window, which may be several albums by a particular band, or a selection of songs with a theme that you have assembled, such as "Road Trip Music" or "1970s Love Songs," if you want to manually copy a playlist of songs to the iPod Touch. Drag the playlist onto the icon of the iPod Shuffle. Click on the plus sign at the bottom of the iTunes window to make a new playlist, type a name for the playlist, and then drag whatever songs you want from your iTunes library into it.
