    Washing

    • If you do not shampoo your hair daily try doing so. Sometimes itchy scalp is due to not enough washing, even if your hair looks and smells clean. If switching to daily shampooing does not solve the issue, try switching shampoos. Sometimes perfumes or chemicals in your current shampoo can cause itchy scalp, even if you have been using the same brand for years.

    Anti-flake shampoo

    • Try using a hydrating, anti-flake shampoo. These shampoos, usually combined with a conditioner, provide the scalp with anti-fungal tea-tree oil and zinc. These can help ease itchiness and heal irritated portions of the scalp. You can buy over-the-counter products such as Selsun Blue or Head and Shoulders Two-In-One at your local grocery store.

    Other remedies

    • Spread olive oil onto the scalp to help hydrate dry and irritated portions. Cortizone cream can also rehydrate the scalp. You can buy cortisone cream at most drugstores. While at the drugstore, pick up some antihistamines such as Claritin or any other allergy relief medicine. Antihistamines work well in relieving itchiness. Another remedy is to relax. Sometimes itchy scalps are caused by excess anxiety. Try not to scratch and it may go away.
