DIY Wading Pools

    • 1). Press the stake into the ground where you want the wading pool. Tie the string to the stake. Cut the string to half the diameter you would like for the pool. For example if you want the pool to be 4 feet across, cut the string to 2 feet. Pull the string taut and walk around the stake. Use a shovel to mark the circle in the ground as you walk around the stake.

    • 2). Lay the first layer of bricks in a circle using the marked circle as the guide. Build up the bricks, staggering them so they are not directly on top of each other, until they are 24 inches high.

    • 3). Add a 4-inch layer of sand at the bottom of the circle.

    • 4). Lay the vinyl liner in the circle and up the sides. Smooth out as many wrinkles in the vinyl as you can. Lay the edge of the top of the vinyl liner over the top of the bricks.

    • 5). Add another layer of bricks on top of the liner to hold it in place. The pressure of the water will also hold it in place.

    • 6). Fill with water.

    • 7). Empty the pool by using a pond pump attached to tubing to drain out the water. Turn the wading pond into a water feature when it's not in use by attaching the pond pump to a fountain sprayer.
