How to Crochet a Circle for a Hat
- 1). Chain four stitches and join with a slip stitch to form a circle. Chain one and make five single crochet stitches in the circle. Join with a slip stitch.
- 2). Increase every round by five more stitches. For round two, chain one and make two single crochet stitches in every stitch around for a total of 10 stitches. Join with a slip stitch.
- 3). Chain one and make one single crochet in the first stitch followed by two in the second stitch for round three. Repeat this pattern around and join with a slip stitch for a total of 15 stitches.
- 4). Chain one and make one single crochet stitch in each of the first two stitches followed by two in the next stitch; repeat this pattern around and join with a slip stitch for a total of 20 stitches in round four.
- 5). Continue to increase the circle, adding one more individual single crochet stitch before the two-in-one single crochet stitch in every round. This will add five stitches to every round you crochet.
- 6). Stop increasing when the circumference of your hat is approximately 1 to 2 inches smaller than the circumference of your head. From that point forward, make one single crochet in every stitch around for every round until the hat reaches the desired height, then finish off.
