This useful checklist will not really cost you a dime to implement but could save a great deal of unnecessary heartache and pain.
It is probably a good idea to go through this checklist several times a week both in the day and at night.
Does your property have measures in place to discourage trespassing such as a fence or hedge? Although not entirely impassable they at least act as some sort of deterrent to burglars.
A fence that you can see over is best.
Is the outside of your property well lit at night? Having a well lit entrance/exit will significantly reduce a chance of burglary.
Lights that have motion sensors are very effective but be sure to protect your light bulbs to prevent tampering or breakage.
What is the condition of your exterior door and window frames? Maybe it's time to get them replaced if they are starting to look warn out.
This is a weak point which the burglar will monopolize, given the chance.
Having good windows and frame will act as a mini fortress and will strongly discourage any would be burglar.
How visible are your doors and windows? If you have overgrown bushes or trees then it's time to prune them.
Overgrown shrubbery provides a great hiding place for the burglar.
Are your windows protected from breakage? Windows in a door or that are near to a door should be made of specially treated safety glass which is tempered or laminated.
If they are not them consider replacing them.
Take a look over your sliding exterior door and assess if they can be lifted out of their runners or prised open.
How good are your locks? Seek out a good locksmith for advice on how to improve your locks.
Deadlocks are best for security.
