    • 1). Remove as much of the tomato stain from the fabric as possible by rinsing it with cool water.

    • 2). Spread the old towel out onto a flat work surface and place the fabric with the tomato stain over the towel to enable you to work on the stain.

    • 3). Spray or squirt the pretreatment product generously over the stained area and allow it to penetrate down into the tomato stain for up to five minutes.

    • 4). Rub at the stained area gently to loosen the stain after the pretreatment product sits for several minutes. Add a small dollop of laundry detergent to the stained area before you rub, if you desire. Do not rub so excessively that you damage the fabric fibers or spread the stain, however.

    • 5). Place the stained garment into the washing machine and set the wash load for the warmest water temperature that is safe for the care of the garment. Add additional laundry detergent to the washing machine and turn the machine on. Allow the washing machine to progress through the entire cycle.

    • 6). Remove the garment from the washing machine when the cycle ends and assess the stain. If the stain remains, return the garment to the washing machine and launder it again. For a color-safe garment, add ¾ cup chlorine bleach to a full size wash load (or ¼ cup to a small wash load) and add the laundry detergent as normal. For a garment that is not color-safe, add one scoop of oxygen bleach to the washing machine along with the normal amount of laundry detergent. Wash the fabric again in the warmest water that is safe for the garment and allow the washing cycle to complete.

    • 7). Dry the fabric in the dryer or on a clothesline when the tomato stain is completely gone.
