    • 1). Don't leave your iPod in direct sunlight. If you are at the pool or beach, tuck it in your bag or purchase a ventilated case that provides UV protection. Avoid taking your iPod along on extreme adventures, such as a trip to the desert.

    • 2). Don't leave your iPod out in your car. Rather than leaving it on the console or seat, stow it in the glove compartment or under the seat. Aside from heat damage, a visible iPod also invites theft. During very hot summer months, don't leave the iPod in your car at all, as temperatures can rise well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 3). Purchase an armband case if you use your iPod while working out. Protect your iPod from heat and sweat by using a case that's made specifically for the gym or for runners. This type of case will be properly ventilated to keep your iPod cool.

    • 4). Keep your iPod cool, but not too cold. Very cold temperatures can be just as damaging to your iPod's battery as heat is, decreasing its capacity and lifespan, and in extreme cases, ruining the battery entirely.
