How to Restore My Files From an External Hard Drive in Vista
- 1). Turn your computer on and plug in the external hard drive.
- 2). Open the Windows Backup and Restore Center. Click the "Start" button in the lower-left corner of your desktop. Click "Control Panel," "System and Maintenance" and "Backup and Restore Center."
- 3). Click the "Restore Files" button at the bottom right of the utility window.
- 4). Click the radio button next to "Files from the latest backup" and click "Next."
- 5). Click the "Add files" button in the "Select the files and folders to restore" window. Choose the files you want to restore from your external hard drive and click the "Add" button. Click "Next."
- 6). Select a location where you want to save the restored files. You can choose between "In the original location" or "In the following location." If you select "In the following location," you'll need to specify the location.
- 7). Click the "Start restore" button in the bottom-right corner of the window and your files are restored.
