    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" button. Type "excel" in the search text box and press "Enter." This command is the shortcut to open the Excel software.

    • 2). Press "Ctrl"+"O" to open the Open dialog window. Double-click the Excel spreadsheet you want to edit to load it in your Excel workspace. Click the cell you want to display the present date value.

    • 3). Type "=NOW()" in the cell and press "Enter." "Now" shows the current date and time in the cell. The "=" character designates a function or calculation. You can also use "=today()" to only display the date without the time.

    • 4). Press "Ctrl"+"S" to save the changes to the main workbook. Notice any cells that have the "Now" or "Today" function display the date or the date and time.
