Creating And Working With Logic Pro Templates

Creating logic pro templates is easy. Included with the software is a wide range of templates that will quickly get you writing music using pre-set instruments and effects in genres as varied as hip hop and movie scores. Take a look at these logic pro templates first, to get an idea of what your custom template will look like. Once you have finished looking at the pre-set templates, you can also create your own custom logic pro templates in the following way.

First, start an empty project. In the dialog that appears, choose how many instrument tracks you want in your template. After that, it's time to choose your instruments. If you're composing for a rock band, for instance, you may want to select a drum set, a couple guitars, a bass, and a couple vocal tracks. If you find you're writing for other instruments often, then choose those instruments. Lastly, customise your workspace. If there are certain windows you use more than others, open them up and position them as you want them to be. All the window positions are saved in your template, so make sure they are also how you need them.

While you are working with your windows, you can also create Screen sets. These let you switch easily between different sets of windows based on different needs, for example, you could have a set for creating, one for editing, and one for mixing. To do this, press the number you want on your numeric keypad. For layout 2, press 2 and then arrange the windows how you want it. Follow that process for each screen set you want to create. Once you have finished your template, it's time to save it. Choose File > Save as Template and name your template, and save it.

Any folders you create while you are saving your template will appear as Collections in the Templates window so I would suggest creating a new folder for your custom templates so they will all be under one Collection. Now, to open your new template. Select File > New, and find your template in the New Templates window.
