Neck, Here"s Mud in Yer Eye Review
Neck is without a doubt one of the best and most underappreciated Irish Punk bands out there.
I listen to their music religiously (religiously in the normal sense of the word, not how I actually practised religion, bargaining with my mother to do chores if she'd let me skip Mass).
When I received an iTunes gift card for some occasion or other, I downloaded Neck's CD Here's Mud in Yer Eye.
One of the iTunes reviews I saw was not overly complimentary, so naturally I set out to resolve that.
Considering my goal, I will admit up front to get it out of the way that I do not like their song Suzie MacGroovie - the one track on the album that steps away from the Irish feel with the exception of the "Mc" in the title, which really only serves to make it as Irish as McDonald's.
Having said that...
even the cover art is cool! This album has all the best elements of Neck - amazing tin whistle, great vocals, and brand spankin' new covers, like I'm a Man You Don't Meet Every Day and Spancill Hill.
The best part for me was the tribute to the Republic of Ireland football squad: Fields of Athenry and Ol'e Hooley.
The title song encompasses all the reasons you should love Neck.
And if you don't yet, convince yourself with this CD.
If you don't go buy it, I'll have to keep rambling about how great it is - so do us all a favor, before I start singing my favourites.
