How to Play Music With a Trash Can
- 1). Turn the trash can upside down to use the bottom of the can for a drumming surface.
- 2). Hold the sticks or mallets in the match-grip position or the traditional grip with your hand. Use the stick position most comfortable for you.
- 3). Strike the bottom (now the top) of the trash can in the center with the sticks to hear the sound.
- 4). Listen to the sounds made when you strike other areas of the trash can with the stick. If different sounds are made when you strike different areas, you can make a simple song or beat to practice.
- 5). Practice with simple beats and rudiments by striking the trash can with each stick in patterns and combinations. As your skill level rises, you can begin producing more elaborate beats and songs on the trash can.
