I"ve Got Everything I Need This Christmas by JD Webb - A Modern Christmas Classic
I love Christmas, and I love music.
Therefore it only stands to reason that I love Christmas music, right? Of course! From classics like "The Christmas Song," and "Santa Clause is Coming to Town," to religious hymns like "Silent Night," and "O Little Town of Bethlehem," all the way to modern tunes like "Little St.
Nick," by the Beach Boys or (dare I say) "I'll Be Missing You Come Christmas (A Letter to Santa)," by New Kids on the Block - I love them all.
There's only one problem with Christmas music, and it's this - very little original Christmas music is produced.
Therefore, you are usually stuck with listening to the your old favorites, or for a little added spice, yet another new cover of "This Christmas (Hang All the Mistletoe).
" Well, this year brings a very special addition into the classic line-up of Christmas songs that are called favorites by millions.
The song is called "Everything I Need this Christmas," and it's by Days of Our Lives resident songwriter JD Webb.
JD has already made his mark in Christian Pop with his former band Raze, and then the Praise and Worship niche with his 2003 effort "Bring it On," on the Warner Brothers Label.
With the impending February 2009 release of his debut solo project, "The Introduction," with Infinite Music Group, he is sure to make an impact on the Soul/R&B world.
It only stands to reason that Christmas music would be on his list of genres to make his own.
"Everything I Need This Christmas" is a fun, playful, and catchy tune that will have you humming it all day long after you hear it - but it's such an engaging melody that you won't even mind! It has been described as similar in tone to "All I Want for Christmas Is You," by Mariah Carey, and I think it will definitely become as instant a favorite as that modern Christmas classic.
The lyrics are every bit as uplifting as the music, describing the protagonist's feeling of completion and joy to be spending the holiday season with the one(s) he loves.
Because of this sense of inner fulfillment, he doesn't need to seek happiness in the outer trappings of the holiday, such as gifts - as the song says, "Santa don't you worry 'bout me, I got everything I need this Christmas.
" All in all, it's the perfect Christmas song to put on while you're decorating the tree, as part of a holiday party playlist, or to groove to while doing seasonal baking or cooking Christmas dinner.
Once you hear it, you - just like the protagonist of the song - will be wishing it could be Christmas all year round.
