Why Take Fish Oil? Fish oil is loaded with nutrients that we need to maintain health, the most recognized of these is Omega 3 fatty acids.
The specific names of the fatty acids we most want to increase are EPA and DHA.
These fatty acids are lacking in the modern diet and are crucial for cellular health.
The main reason you would want to take fish oil is to increase levels of EPA and DHA Omega 3 fatty acids.
What Does It Do? By increasing the amount of Omega 3 fatty acids, fish oil helps promote the health of each cell in your body! The walls of the cells in your body are partially made of the fatty acids EPA and DHA.
Since the majority of the population that will be reading this (industrialized societies) are deficient in these Omega 3 fatty acids, they are a ticking time bomb waiting for some cell abnormality to express itself.
Fish oil has been shown to help level out these negative cellular effects and increase cell health.
Who needs it? Since everyone's health starts at the cells (it is where your DNA is kept) everyone should be concerned with having a healthy cell wall.
The cell wall regulates what nutrients come into your cell and what waste products get out of your cells, if you cannot get nutrients in or waste out your cell is going to suffer negative consequences such as inflammation.
Cells make up every tissue in your body including your brain, digestive tract, muscles, etc...
Without proper nutrition your cells cannot function at 100%.
What Kind Should I Get? There is a lot of debate on what is the best fish oil, and there are numerous claims as to which kind is the best.
The thing to remember is that EPA and DHA are the main ingredients you are after.
Many fish oils claim to have 1000mg or more of fishoil, but this means nothing if the EPA and DHA that is present is only 2-300mg.
Most popular store brands use this labeling technique to confuse consumers.
A good Place to start looking is on the labels and add up EPA and DHA, you want to get 2000-3000mg per day of these 2 nutrients.
Certain conditions require more, but this is a good average to shoot for.
Remember that 1000mg is equal to 1 gram, so the equivalent to 2000-3000mg would be 2-3 grams.
