    Centerpiece

    • Craft dramatic ostrich feather centerpieces for any event or as a striking display in your home. Begin with a tall, slender vase that is at least 24 inches tall and a straight stem bouquet holder. Arrange and insert the drab feather quills into the bouquet holder to create fullness around the base of the centerpiece. Arrange and insert ostrich feather plumes among the drabs to create draping feathery accents. Insert the bouquet holder into the vase and secure it with floral tape.

    Wall Art

    • Attach ostrich plumes and drabs to a framed canvas to create decorative wall art. Arrange the plumes first in a fan shape along the top section of the canvas. Glue the quills to the canvas with one-part epoxy adhesive. After the glue dries, arrange another fan shaped layer of shorter plumes or drabs on top of the first layer. Continue to layer and overlay feathers to cover the canvas. Let the glue dry before adding the next layer. Alter the colors of the feathers to add drama to the wall art.

    Hair Accessories

    • Create decorative hair accessories with a few colorful ostrich feathers. Begin with two or three feathers that are similar in size and hold them with the quills together. Use plumes or drabs for this project. Cut the quills so that they are close to the first feather fronds and clip the tops of the feathers together with an alligator clip. Use thread that matches the feathers to tie the quills together. Stitch the joined quills to a hat band or wrap them with fabric and glue them to a headband with one-part epoxy adhesive. Remove the alligator clip to let the tops of the ostrich feathers flow freely.

    Masks

    • Decorate a mask form with acrylic paint for a special event or holiday. Mask forms are available in a variety of shapes and styles at craft stores and online retailers. After the paint dries, glue flat backed rhinestones around the mask face to add sparkling color. One-part epoxy works to attach the stones. Complete the mask by gluing one or more ostrich plumes to one side or both sides as an accent. Tie thin ribbons around the quills and let them drape along the side of the mask. You can use left over feathers to create a costume reminiscent of a fancy ostrich to match your mask, as well.
