How to Tune to Drop C
- 1). Turn on your digital guitar tuner. Begin with the sixth string on your guitar (the E string) and lower the string two whole steps, down to a C. To lower, or tune down, a string, turn your the tuning key counter clockwise to loosen it. The digital tuner will indicate when you have reached the correct note.
- 2). Lower your fifth string one whole step, down to a G. Lower the fourth string an entire step, which will bring it to a C. These lower three strings form a C power chord that will give your music a low, heavy tone. These three strings and the power chord they form are what gives this tuning its name.
- 3). Tune the final three strings of your guitar down one whole step each. This will make the strings (from the third thickest to the thinnest) F, A and D.
