Album Review: Slash - Slash (2010) - Debut Solo Album

103 18
Slash is the eponymous debut solo album by former Guns N' Roses and current Velvet Revolver guitarist, Slash.
Finally and is well worth the wait.
Add to it the fact it has four of the five members of the Appetite for Destruction era Guns N' Roses lineup: Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler, makes it something to savor.
The Guest line-up is a list of who's who of the Rock and Pop genre with names such as Ozzie Osbourne, Fergie, Adam levine, Chris Cornell, Kid Rock, Dave Grohl, Iggy Pop and more.
Getting straight to the review now, "I Hold On" featuring Kid Rock is good rock song, very Kid Rock Style, but undoubtedly 'Slash'd.
Slash's work is very reminiscence of GNR which gives a synthesised and complete sound throughout the song.
His mid-song lead is great clearly showing the reason why this is on a Slash Album and not a Kid Rock one.
Then there is "Beautiful Dangerous" with Fergie (of Black Eyed Peas).
Wow...
what a song.
The lady is a real rocker.
If I hadn't known better I would've never realised it was Fergie.
She does a great job here and the combination is mindblowing.
Other songs such as "Promise" with Soundgardens Chris Cornell and 'By the Sword' with Wolfmothers Adrew Stockdale are OK.
Knowing both as great vocalist with unique and distinct styles, I was kinda looking forward to hearing these tracks.
I wont say they disappoint, but it coulda been a whole lot better.
Adams Levine shines on 'Gotten' as also does Ian Astbury (of English Rock Band The CUlt) on the track 'Ghost'.
Both have a full sound and feel.
The latter is very GNR'sque and punches a whole lotta rock.
Its awesome to hear this full volume whilst driving on the Highway.
Then theres the track "Crucify The Dead" with my favourite Ozzie Osbourne.
It starts brilliantly and I was really expecting a whole lot from this, but it does fizzle out and even seemed a bit lazy midway.
Rocco DeLuca shows promise on the song "Saint is A Sinner Too" and Slash doing some amazing string work.
After a couple of listens this actually does start to sound better.
Other tracks are listenable but more-so average, more on the very hard side filled with Slash doing what he does best with elan.
Sinner Too" with Slash doing some amazing string work.
This album really took me back years to my college days when GNR was the 'real-thing'.
The Sound and feel was there and I was finally happy to listen once again to good ol 'Classic Rock' as against today's Alternative Metal Rock or whatever it is known by these days.
Hey buddy Slash - If ever you do read this review - Great Job! Heading the 'Santana' way - hope Slash keep this up featuring varied artists.
I listen to all genres today, but the one that always sets my adrenaline pumping is my original fave - good ol hard rock! How I see it is that if the album has 4-5 enjoyable tracks, you've got a great deal and this album does more than that.
