    • 1). Wear protective eyeglasses and gloves to protect your eyes and skin against sanding and chemicals used throughout the process.

    • 2). Remove the screws from the top and bottom portions of your stompbox to separate the enclosure from the electrical equipment within the interior of the box. Place the interior of your stompbox and the screws away from your working space for reassembly.

    • 3). Place newspaper or a drop cloth onto a flat working surface to protect the surface against sand particles, paint splatter and chemical stains. Put the enclosure pieces of your stompbox on top of the newspaper or cloth.

    • 4). Sand all sides of your stompbox enclosure with 600-grit sandpaper until the sandpaper becomes worn down. Brush off or replace the newspaper or drop cloth from Step 3.

    • 5). Pour acetone onto a clean cloth. Scrub the acetone on all sides of the sanded stompbox to remove sand particles, dirt and grime. Pour lukewarm water onto a clean cloth. Scrub and rinse your stompbox with the water to create a surface that paint can adhere to.

    • 6). Brush off or replace the newspaper or drop cloth from Step 4 with clean newspaper so that no sand particles remain in the vicinity of your stompbox. Wipe your stompbox with a dry cloth to remove moisture. Consider allowing more drying time for a wooden box versus a metal box, as wood absorbs water and takes longer to dry. Direct your fan onto the stompbox to speed up the drying process.

    • 7). Spray a light coat of sandable primer onto your enclosure to create a base. Wait 15 minutes for the primer to dry. Repeat this step for a second and third coat.

    • 8). Sand the primer with 600-grit sandpaper to achieve a smooth finish.

    • 9). Apply three coats of enamel paint to your enclosure with a paintbrush or spray can, waiting 15 minutes between the application of each coat, as you did when applying the primer in Step 7. Spray cans may provide a more even application.

Allow your stompbox to dry for 36 to 48 hours. The texture of the paint should be hard once drying is complete.
