How to Properly Install a Hard Drive in a Dell Optiplex GX260 Intel Pentium 4

    • 1). Shut down the Dell OptiPlex computer. Disconnect the power cable, keyboard, mouse and other peripherals from the computer. Lay the unit on its side and push the release button on the bottom of the case. Pull the case cover up and away from the computer.

    • 2). Disconnect the IDE cable and power cable from the hard drive currently installed in the Optiplex. Pull the drive out of the bay by pressing the bracket tabs.

    • 3). Unscrew the brackets from the hard drive and transfer them to the new drive. Reconnect the brackets using the screws you just removed.

    • 4). Slide the new hard drive into the bay and connect the IDE and power cables. Close the case cover, stand the Optiplex upright and move it back in place.
