    • 1). Sketch out a large oval on the page to construct the basic outline of the monkey's paw. Draw 2 vertical lines out from this oval to represent the wrist of the animal. Use light pencil strokes when creating this guideline, as you will need to easily erase these marks once you have detailed the paw.

    • 2). Draw a curved tube-like shape on 1 side of the paw to represent the thumb. Sketch a half-moon inside the end of this thumb to represent the fingernail. Curve the thumb inward on the hand as it connects to the wrist.

    • 3). Create each of the 4 fingers of the monkey paw using long, oval-like shapes. Make sure that the individual joints of each finger are represented by small, horizontal lines at the appropriate places. Draw a half-moon shape at the end of each finger to portray the fingernails. Define the side of the monkey's paw from the pinky finger down to the wrist with an indented line.

    • 4). Use long, light pencil strokes from the top of the wrist down each of the fingers to create the hairy texture of the monkey paw. The thickness of this hair is purely dependent on how you wish the monkey paw to look.

    • 5). Trace the outline pencil marks and details with an ink pen to create a bolder look. Carefully use the pen to create the hairy texture of the hand just as it is depicted in the picture you are using as a reference. Let the ink dry, then erase any remaining pencil lines.
