How to Make a Chihuahua Out of Clay
- 1). Roll an egg-shaped piece of clay with your hands. This will be the head of the Chihuahua. Roll out a ball three times the size of the egg for the body. Set aside the larger ball.

Pinch out ears from the rounded part of the clay egg shape. The ears should be quite large, about half the size of the overall head, and triangular shaped. Use your fingers to sculpt one ear on either side of the top of the head. Push your index finger into the bottom of the ears to make it have depth and slightly curl the edges of the ears in. - 3). Sculpt out a muzzle on the opposite end of the head from the ears. It should be slightly thinner than the portion of the head with the ears and eyes. Round out the end for its nose. You will come back to the finer feature of the face.
- 4). Roll out a thick cylindrical piece of clay for the neck. Wedge it onto the bottom of the Chihuahua's head. Then push the body piece into the neck. Use your finger to seal all the pieces together. If the clay is dry, dip your finger in a little water. Be sure all the pieces are sticking together.
- 5). Create four short legs and a tail from the body. Place the bottom end of the dog onto the wooden board, so it looks like it is sitting. This position will stand better than a clay dog standing on all four legs. The clay legs may not hold the weight of the body if standing.

Sculpt the front of the legs so they go straight down and add some clay for its front paws. The back legs should be sculpted so they are bent at the knees. Add more clay if necessary. - 7). Sculpt the tail so it curls slightly onto the board, and form the dog's overall body. The head should be erect at the top and the rest of the body should curve out slightly.
- 8). Roll out two small balls of clay and place them where the eyes go in the middle of the head. Chihuahua's have large expressive eyes. Press them into position and work more on the features of the face. Be sure the nose and mouth is visible, and use clay tools to create finer features.
- 9). Press any part of the body with your fingers that needs more work. Dip a small sponge into water and squeeze the excess. Smooth the entire body of the Chihuahua.
