How to Paint on Burlap

    • 1). Spread the burlap over a flat, covered area. You can cover the area with newspapers, an old sheet or a tarp. The fibers in burlap usually are fairly loose, which can allow some paint to bleed through, so you'll want to protect your work area.

    • 2). Squirt some acrylic paint onto a plastic, foam or paper plate.

    • 3). Dip a dry brush into the paint and work it around to load the brush. Use a brush with fairly stiff bristles since burlap is a rough type of fabric.

    • 4). Add a few drops of water to your paint and mix it in with a paintbrush if the texture of the paint seems to be too thick when you transfer it to the burlap.

    • 5). Dry your burlap thoroughly by letting it air dry. You can turn on a fan to speed up this process.
