Fishing Theme Birthday Cake Ideas
- Use a sheet cake to create a pond scene. Use a toothpick to mark the pond area in the middle of the cake. Draw the outline of the pond with the toothpick. Dig out the pond with the edges gently sloping down to the middle like a real pond. The middle of the pond should only be about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep. Ice the cake with a thin layer of blue icing in the pond area. Use a grass icing tip to ice the rest of the cake with green icing. Mix clear piping gel with blue food coloring to create the water for the pond. Fill the pond with the blue piping gel. Use fondant to make logs, rocks, frogs and fish for the pond scene. Place them on the cake. Create a person who is fishing from the fondant, or purchase a small plastic figure to place near the pond.
- Start with a baked and cooled sheet cake. Make a template of a fish from a side view. Lay the template on top of the sheet cake. Cut around the fish with a sharp knife. Remove the template. Round the top edge of the fish cake slightly with the knife. Place the fish cake on a cake board covered in blue paper to resemble water. Ice the cake, adding details such as fins, gills, eyes and a mouth. Add a fondant hook attached to a string in front of the fish's mouth.
- Bake a sheet cake. Cut it in half. Stack the halves of the cake with a layer of icing between. This will serve as the main part of the tackle box. Ice the tackle box cake in your choice of colors. Make a handle for the tackle box with fondant. Place the handle in the middle of the cake. Add other details, such as hinges and a latch, using either frosting or fondant. Make fishing lures from fondant, and place them on the cake board near the tackle box.
