How to Fold Bows
- 1). Cut a piece of ribbon 43 inches long with scissors. Use ribbon that is at least 1 inch wide.
- 2). Cut the ribbon into 5 sections: 12 inches, 11 inches, 9 inches, 8 inches and 3 inches in length, respectively.
- 3). Fold the 12-inch section to make a loop. Apply a peppercorn-sized bead of fabric glue to one end of the ribbon. Overlap the ends of the ribbon roughly 1/2-inch. Press both ends of the ribbon together to secure the loop.
- 4). Repeat the process with the 11-inch and 9-inch ribbons, to form 2 more loops. The 1/2-inch overlap is the backside of each loop.
- 5). Hold the 12-inch loop to your work surface. Press the backside of the ribbon to the table with a finger. Position the finger immediately next to the overlap. Apply a peppercorn-sized bead of glue on top of the overlap.
- 6). Flatten the ribbon by folding it in half. Bring the top of the loop down to the bead of glue. The ribbon should resemble a bow. Press the folded ribbon against the table, to glue it in place. Repeat the process with the other loops.
- 7). Glue the bows in a stack. Apply a bead of glue, centered on top of the 12-inch bow. Center the 11-inch bow above it. Press the bows together. Glue the smallest bow to the top of the stack in the fashion.
- 8). Turn the bow over. Apply a bead of glue in the middle of the ribbon, on top of the overlap. Center the 8-inch ribbon over the stacked ribbon. Line it up to run horizontally like the stacked loops. Press it into the glue.
- 9). Apply a bead of glue, centered on top of the ribbon. Position the 3-inch ribbon perpendicular to the ribbon stack. If the ribbon stack is horizontal, the 3-inch piece should be vertical. Press the low end of the 3-inch section into the glue. It should look like the short ribbon is radiating from the top of the stack.
- 10
Wrap the 3-inch ribbon around the center of the entire bow. Apply a bead of glue. Press the loose end of the 3-inch section into the glue, to secure it in a loop around the middle of the bow.
