Is Peep Show the Best UK Sitcom at the Moment?
Peep Show is the award winning British sitcom that has just finished its sixth season, starring characters Jeremy and Mark.
These two are the most unusual of housemates, in the way that they are total opposites from each other.
Mark is an uptight, jobs-worth credit manager who finds comfort in the hum-drum 9-5 lifestyle, while Jeremy is a messed up, drug taking, responsibility shunning musician who dreams of life as a superstar.
After watching the first episode of Peep Show you might question how such different people could possibly live together, and to actually enjoy the show you'll have to 'suspend your disbelief' and put this aside for one second, because the relationship that they share (and the relationship with other characters) is truly fantastic.
The main storyline of each episode usually involves Mark and Jeremy trying to find the love of their life (Mark famously thinks that almost every woman that he meets is 'the one' to comical results) and Jeremy trying to become famous.
Despite the sound of it, the humour is extremely subtle and never feels cheap or lazy (by lazy I mean that the humour isn't just a rehash of several old, successful sitcoms from the past, and each storyline is truly unique).
Peep Show might not be the best UK sitcom ever (I think 'The Office' and 'Fawlty Towers' (among others) might have a thing or two to say about that), but it is certainly one of the true highlights of the television calendar at the moment, and is something that everyone should give a chance to at least once.
