How to Make a Schedule Itinerary
- 1). Gather information with the Internet. The computer is the most efficient way to organize the details of your trip. You can search for the best airfare and hotel accommodations and book them online. Compile a list of places of interest and things to do such as museums, nighttime activities, restaurants and historical sites. Print out local maps and directions. If you have friends in the area, email them and let them know when you are coming. Read about the history of the city or area you are visiting. Finally, check the weather before you pack your suitcase.
- 2). Prioritize your list. There is always more to see and do than time to do it. Divide your list into three categories: (1) The things that you have to see. (2) The things that would be nice to see (3) The things that can wait. For example, if you are an art lover visiting New York City for a few days you will have to be strategic in choosing which museums to visit. You may not have time to visit both the MOMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. If you are more interested in contemporary art, then the MOMA may be the better choice.
- 3). Organize the space and time between events. Give yourself ample time to get from point A to point B. Map out the things you want to do and the places you wish to visit so that you are not constantly backtracking. Consider the distance that you have to cover and the means of transportation that you will use. If you are in a major metropolitan area it is important to keep the time of day in mind.
- 4). Keep your schedule itinerary with you. Write the information and addresses for the places you wish to see on the itinerary. Once you visit a place ,cross it off on your list. Take time to record a few observations about your experience.
- 5). Don't let your itinerary trap you. The purpose of the trip is not complete the itinerary. The itinerary is simply a general guideline and resource for your trip. Be flexible and open to the unpredictable.
