Using Traditional Media

• 1). Draw your picture's outline using a pencil on drawing paper. Correct any mistakes you find in the piece with pencil and eraser. Then use a black pen to ink your outline. The quality of your line art decides how the final picture looks, so take your time with this step.
  
  
• 2). Envision what the finished work looks like and picture the colors you want to use for the piece. Pick the colors needed from your watercolor paints to fit the desired look.
  
  
• 3). Paint your base colors for the art piece. Try not to leave any part of the picture white. This allows you to see how your piece looks with the colors you have chosen. Use lighter colors for your bases and do not darken any parts of the picture until you've finished applying the base colors.
  
  
• 4). Add shadow tones to the art piece. Work your way down gradually, painting the darkest shades on your picture last. Do this for the entire picture while keeping in mind the desired intensity of shading wanted in your picture.
  
  
• 5). Dry your art piece for 30 minutes to an hour, then add highlights to your art piece using white and other bright colors. Focus the highlights in the direction from where the primary light in your piece comes.
  
  
• 6). Correct any mistakes in your art work and add extra details to complete your Manga picture.
  
  

Using Computer Painting Software

• 1). Scan your line art onto the computer using a computer scanner, or create line art in your computer painting software. Correct any mistakes in your line art before coloring.
  
  
• 2). Apply base colors to your line art using the tools in your painting software. Keep your base colors in the same range of brightness and vibrancy. Use a new drawing layer for the base colors, if your painting software allows.
  
  
• 3). Paint both highlights and shadows into your picture keeping in mind the light direction of your art piece. If your software allows, use different layers for all shadowing and highlights.
  
  
• 4). Correct any mistakes and add final details to your picture. Use the features your painting software offers to enhance the art piece's style and look.
  
  
• 5). Print out your Manga piece on a sheet of paper to get a better idea of the color.
