How to Airbrush Thin Lines
- 1). Thin acrylic paint with mineral spirits until it the consistency of ink. You need to do this to allow the paint pass through the thinner needle head.
- 2). Set up the airbrush up with an acute needle. If it has a maximum of 0.22 mm in diameter, it will produce a thinner line on your page. It will also help if the eye of the needle tapers. The thinner needle head reduces the paint volume sprayed through the nozzle, and therefore, creates a finer line.
- 3). Draw a series of loops on a piece of paper with a sharp pencil. Following these lines with your airbrush is a useful practice technique and will enable you to monitor how thin your lines are and how you are improving.
- 4). Begin airbrushing. Follow the line of the loops on the page. As Airbrushtips.com explains, you can make your line thinner by holding the airbrush closer to the page to stop the paint spreading out across a wider surface area.
- 5). Practice painting with the airbrush. Reduce the air pressure omitted from the airbrush to make the lines you are painting thinner. This lowers the force of the paint coming out of the needle, so droplets do not land where you do not want them to. It helps you to narrow the line more effectively.
