How to Play on a Yamaha PSR-80 Keyboard
- 1). Read the instruction manual. The PSR-80 instructional manual is user friendly. Sit at the keyboard while you read through the manual. Familiarize yourself with the buttons and controls on the keyboard.
- 2). Turn the power on. The PSR-80 provides two power options. It is powered by batteries or by plugging an AC adapter into the keyboard and then into a electrical outlet. Turn the power on and adjust the volume level by moving the master volume slider.
- 3). Experiment with the orchestra voicing and solo voicing. Begin with the orchestra voicing feature. Turn the orchestra voicing power switch to the "On" position. Select a voice, such as brass or woodwinds. Play simple melodies and chords. Experiment with different sound effects, such as chorus and the jazz organ. Turn the orchestra voicing switch to the "Off" position. Turn the the solo voicing switch to the "On" position and select a voice. Experiment with this feature as you find the right sound for your music.
- 4). Practice with various rhythm tracks. The PSR-80 has a built in drum machine that plays different beats, including disco, rock n' roll, country, jazz and reggae. The tempo can be manipulated and adjusted from very slow speeds to very fast speeds. The drum effect is capable of 144 variations. Select a drum track and set the tempo. Find the right voicing sound. Play songs or compose your own music.
- 5). Record a chord sequence. The PSR-80's chord sequencing feature is for practicing and composing music. Hit the record button and play a chord pattern. The memory will store the chord sequence. This makes it possible to store musical ideas or to provide a chordal accompaniment for improvisation practice.
- 6). Incorporate additional features into your playing. The PSR-80 allows you to add different levels of sustain to control the brightness and the pitch of the note being played.
