    • 1). Shut the MacBook Pro down through Mac OS X. Disconnect every cable, close the screen and turn the computer face-down with the battery facing toward you.

    • 2). Push the two plastic tabs on the edge of the battery away from you. When you can see red under both tabs, the battery is unlocked. Place your finger in the seam on the edge of the battery and lift it out of the MacBook Pro. Near the middle of the computer and on the edge of the battery compartment, you should now see three Phillips-head screws.

    • 3). Remove the three screws. Each time you remove a group of screws from the MacBook Pro 1211, place them in a plastic bag and label the bag with the location of the screws. For example, you might label the first bag "Battery Compartment."

    • 4). Lift the inside edge of the metal panel that you removed the three screws from, and slide it horizontally toward the outside of the battery compartment to remove it from the MacBook Pro. You should now see the computer's RAM upgrade compartment.

    • 5). Rotate the computer 180 degrees and remove the two Phillips-head screws from the outside edge of the battery compartment.

    • 6). Remove the two Torx screws inside the RAM upgrade compartment.

    • 7). Remove the four Phillips-head screws from the back edge of the MacBook Pro 1211 bottom panel.

    • 8). Rotate the MacBook Pro so the side with the DVI, Ethernet, FireWire and USB ports faces you. Remove the four Phillips-head screws from the computer's side panel.

    • 9). Rotate the MacBook Pro so the back edge faces you. Remove the two Phillips-head screws next to the screen hinge.

      Rotate the MacBook Pro so the side with the audio, USB and power ports faces you. Remove the four Phillips-head screws from the computer's side panel.

      Turn the MacBook Pro 1211 face-up and open the screen. You may wish to drape a towel over the screen to prevent scratching.

      Lift the top panel gently off of the MacBook Pro 1211, being careful not to bend the metal. Stop lifting when you can see the keyboard and trackpad cables under the panel.

      Pry the keyboard and trackpad cables from the system board by lifting gently with a spudger or other thin non-conductive tool.
