    • 1). Use the brush and telescopic attachment to brush down the sides of the pool, stairs and the floor of the pool as soon as you see the green water.

    • 2). Test the pH level in the pool. If the pH level is above 7.2, use pH decreaser. If the pH is lower than 7.2, add pH increaser to bring the pH into the 7.2 range. Once the pH is on the low side, you are ready to turn on the filter and move to the next step.

    • 3). Add polymeric algaecide to the pool. The amount of algaecide you add will depend on the size of the pool. The package will tell you how much to use. Add the algaecide in the deep end of the pool. Start at the beginning of the deep end and walk around to the other side while pouring in the algaecide.

    • 4). Add chlorine shock to the pool. Use 2 lbs. of shock for every 10,000 gallons of water in the pool. Pour the shock in the pool starting at the beginning of the deep end on one side and walking around to the other side while pouring in the shock.

    • 5). Wait until the next day to brush down the pool walls, floor and stairs again. Let the water settle down, which will take about one hour. Attach the vacuum hose to the vacuum head. Attach the telescopic pole to the vacuum head and attach the skimmer plate to the other end of the hose. Prime the hose by filling with water. Place the skimmer plate on the skimmer basket and vacuum the bottom of the pool.

    • 6). Turn off the pump. Turn the valve handle to backwash the sand or diatomaceous earth (D.E.) filters as soon as you are done vacuuming the pool. If the pump has a cartridge filter, use the garden hose to clean the elements and return to the pump. Turn the valve handle back to filter and turn on.

    • 7). Brush the pool walls and floor after vacuuming and backwashing the filter. You want all of the algae in the pool that is left to float and be sucked into the filter.

    • 8). Inspect the pool the next day. Assuming that the pool water is cleared up, you can use the testing kit to check the other chemical levels and adjust as needed.
