Once a powerless kid at the mercy of every adult in his life, 10-year-old Timmy Turner figures he finally has the upper hand when two fairy godparents, Cosmo and Wanda, appear unexpectedly on the scene. They constantly practice their craft on him and delight in playfully punishing his babysitting nemesis, 16-year-old Vicky, who turns mean as a snake the second Timmy's parents leave.

Throughout his magical misadventures, and while exploring the big issues of being a kid, Timmy learns two important lessons: Be careful for what you wish for; and getting what you want won't necessarily solve all your problems.

The Fairly OddParents debuted on Nickelodeon in March of 2001.

Creator and Cast

The Fairly OddParents stars Tara Strong (Powerpuff Girls) as Timmy Turner, Susanne Blakeslee as Wanda, Daran Norris as Cosmo, Grey Delisle (Dan Vs.) as Vicky and Carlos Alazraqui as Mr. Crocker.

The Fairly OddParents is created and executive produced by Butch Hartman. Butch Hartman began his animation career as an assistant animator on An American Tail. He directed cartoons and created his own shorts for What a Cartoon!, and also wrote and directed episodes of Dexter's Laboratory, Cow & Chicken and Johnny Bravo. Hartman joined Nickelodeon in 1998 where he created and produced several cartoon shorts for the Oh Yeah! Cartoons series, including The Fairly OddParents. Hartman is also the creator of Nickelodeon's Danny Phantom and T.U.F.F. Puppy.

Special Episodes

"Fairly OddBaby"
The hour-long animated special aired as a President's Day special. In "Fairly OddBaby," Cosmo and Wanda are expecting a baby.

Since a fairy baby hasn't been born in thousands of years, it's up to Timmy, Cosmo, Wanda, Jorgen and some powerful burritos to make sure the first fairy baby born in the past millennia is safe and sound at home with its new family. Original Air Date: February 18, 2008

"The Fairly Oddlympics"
Timmy Turner convinces the fairies, anti-fairies and pixies to compete in the Fairy World Games to determine once and for all "who is the best magical creature in the universe." Timmy's world competition pits them against each other in rainbow jumping, dragon lifting, North Pole vaulting and the million-year dash. Covering the momentous event with Timmy is none other than Olympic figure-skating-gold-medalist Scott Hamilton.

At first everything is going well for the fairies, as the athletic Jorgen easily wins the first five events for them. But it goes south quickly when the cheating anti-fairies and pixies coerce Timmy into betting his future on the fairies' victory and then knock Jorgen out of the games completely. Timmy's got to take charge of the fairy team and get them to focus before he ends up in the hands of Anti-Cosmo or HP (Head Pixie, guest voice Ben Stein) forever. And Scott Hamilton's no help because he's convinced he's having the oddest dream of his life. Original Air Date: August 1, 2008

"CHINdred Spirits"
Timmy's disappointed to see how boring the Crimson Chin comics have become lately. When he spends a day with the Chin, he sees why - the Chin is lonely. Timmy wishes up a super girlfriend for him, except now the comic is both boring and romantic, yuck! Desperate, Timmy unknowingly makes a wish that changes everything, so he must undo his wish - and fast. Original Air Date: November 30, 2008

"Vicky Gets Fired"
Despite all the ways Vicky has tortured Timmy, it's only when she accidentally erases a videotape that Mom and Dad actually fire her. Determined to get a job, Vicky decides she wants to be mayor and takes over the city. As she's ready to make Vickyville a whole new country, Timmy, who's happy for the first time, realizes he's got to get Vicky out of office and back as his babysitter in order to maintain peace. "9 Lives"
When Catman tells Timmy he's used up eight of his nine cat lives saving Dimmsdale from crime, Timmy helps Catman find a "safer" job where he can still help people. But it turns out Catman is terrible at every job Timmy gets for him. Thankfully, Mom and Dad are overrun by a hoard of rodents. Sensing he's needed, Catman (or "Ratman") snaps out of his funk and puts his ninth life on the line to save the day once more. Original Air Date: November 30, 2008

"Dread and Breakfast"
Dad's quit his job to make sock monkeys, and there's no income for the Turners…until Mom turns the house into a bed and breakfast. That'd be fine, if the first guests weren't Mr. Crocker, Dark Laser and Tootie who either want to destroy Timmy or kiss him. As Timmy runs around frantically trying to stay one step ahead of his house guests, he must find a way to get everyone out without using the very fairy magic Crocker is hoping to catch him using. A Fairly Odd Movie: Grow Up, Timmy Turner!
a live-action television movie adaptation starring Drake Bell (Drake & Josh). Timmy is no longer a 10 year old boy. He is 23, still lives at home and still attends the 5th grade. Timmy's arrested development stems from his desire to keep his beloved fairy godparents, Cosmo (Jason Alexander, Seinfeld), and Wanda (Cheryl Hines, Curb Your Enthusiasm), because "Da Rules" dictates that godchildren lose their fairies when they grow up. But when Tootie, (Daniella Monet, Victorious) a formerly nerdy girl who's always had a crush on Timmy, returns to town as a gorgeous grown-up, Timmy finds himself having very adult feelings for her. He must decide whether to grow up and be with the woman he loves, or continue acting like a child to keep the fairy godparents he adores. In the meantime, Hugh J. Magnate (Steven Weber, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), a larger than life oil tycoon, turns his attention to capturing Timmy's fairies and using their power to fuel his maniacal ambition. "Wishology" Trilogy

"Wishology: The Big Beginning"
Timmy Turner faces his biggest challenge yet when a swirling black hole of doom called The Darkness threatens to absorb all the light and magic of Fairy World, Earth and every known universe. Centuries ago, a council of fairies hid a mystical wand on Earth that has the power to defeat The Darkness, but only the Chosen One (who is depicted in the Fairy World prophecy and resembles Timmy Turner) can unlock its mysteries. Unfortunately for Timmy, his fairy godparents are missing, his existence has been erased and The Darkness has sent giant metallic robot soldiers called Eliminators to get rid of him. Timmy's wild adventure takes him from Dimmsdale to Fairy World to Las Vegas and the Middle-Aged Rock Festival (M.A.R.F.) to find the rock band KISS who may hold the key to finding the magical wand. Brendan Fraser guest stars as the voice of Turbo Thunder, a highly trained warrior who believes he (and not Timmy) is The Chosen One, and Patrick Warburton lends his voice to two agents of the Military Extra-Terrestrial Research Facility (M.E.R.F.). "Wishology: The Exciting Middle Part"
Timmy learns that to truly defeat The Darkness, he needs a second wand, which is located on the far side of the universe. The threat from the robotic Eliminators still remains as they have stolen Yugopotamia's Fake-i-fier technology and can transform into anyone, including Timmy's loved ones. Now, Timmy must rely on the last people he ever thought he could trust. With the help of Mr. Crocker, Dark Laser and his wicked babysitter Vicky, Timmy journeys into space to find the second wand and battle the Eliminators. Original Air Date: May 2, 2009

"Wishology: The Final Ending"
Timmy returns to Dimmsdale to find that his home is actually an illusion and he is now living inside The Darkness. When Cosmo, Wanda and Jorgen come to the rescue, Timmy learns that he must also stop a rogue Eliminator who has absorbed Cosmo and Wanda's magic wands, morphed into a gigantic Destructonator and turned Earth into his metallic prison world. As Timmy trains to battle the Destructonator, he conjures a new plan - to treat The Darkness as a friend. The only question that remains is if The Darkness will be open to kindness, thus casting aside its plan to destroy Earth and Fairy World. Original Air Date: May 3, 2009

My Two Cents

The Fairly OddParents is clever, and shows a knowledge for all things pop culture. But there are a few reasons why The Fairly OddParents can only be taken on small doses. First, every character on the show has a nails-on-the-chalkboard voice, with the exception of Dad. Second, every frame looks like someone zoomed in too far; it's claustrophobic. Lastly, the bright purples, pinks and greens combine to make me feel like I've walked into a carnival gone wrong. The theme song is terribly catchy, and when I watch the cartoon I laugh, but one episode lasts me for a week at least.
