The Economic Meltdown is Your Fault.

You read that right. The economic meltdown is the fault of you, the one reading this article. And mine. Let me explain.

Unless you are one of the few who did the smart thing over the last 20 years, meaning a person who has lived within their means, and saved at least 20% of their money, this entire economic mess is your fault. How long did you think you could go on borrowing and spending? Did you think it was going to be a never ending ride? Have you not paid attention to history? Are you not responsible for your own actions?

In this day and age it is so common to blame your problems on someone or something else, other than oneself. The me generation has come home to roost. But whose fault was it really that millions of people purchased homes that they couldn't afford? The mortgage brokers? The banks? The real estate agents? None of the above. The truth is that people should have known that they could not afford those homes. But, you say, they hoodwinked me in the small print. Really? Well, if you don't know how to read, you should have brought someone who does to the closing with you. They never explained how a no interest, ARM loan works. Well then, if you didn't understand, why did you sign? Whose responsibility is it to understand the contract? The banks? I'm fairly sure that they understand contracts. Do you? Did you even read the contracts? If you did and didn't understand, did you ask? Or did you just blindly sign, hoping that all would be ok?
News flash, it's your fault, no one else's. And to blame it on anyone or anything else is to live in denial. Grow up, accept your responsibility, and move on. Life is still happening out here.

If you're living paycheck to paycheck, whose fault is it? Who put you in that position? I didn't, I know that. The problem with this country today is that everyone wants something for nothing. You either haven't saved enough money, or didn't get the right education, or lived above your means. None of it had anything to do with the Big, Bad Corporation. What are you going to do? Well, you had better strap them on, because it's a brave new world, and you're part of it. You're on your own. The free ride that we've been on is over. You're going to have to figure it out for yourself.

Who forced us to become addicted to consumption? I remember paying $100.00 for a pair of sunglasses back in the 80's, and my grandmother couldn't fathom doing something like that. Why? She grew up in the depression. Now, those folks had it tough. There was nowhere near the opportunities available to them as there are to you and me. Who put the gun to your head to force you to live beyond your means? No one, that's on you. Why would you buy a new car if your renting an apartment? Don't try to tell me that the credit card companies forced you to max out your cards. I'm not buying it. We were consumaholics, and it has come back to bite us. Maybe we'll learn to save some money the next time around.

On another topic, since when is a job a right? Last time I checked, the 2nd most important document ever written ( in my not so humble opinion ) states the right to " Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness." It doesn't say " Life, Liberty, the Guarantee of Happiness, a job, health care, a new car, free money, entitlements and whatever your little heart desires."

It's time to get real. We are where we are at because of choices that we have made. I lived outside of the USA for 15 years, in a 3rd world country. People here don't even know what poor is. Trying living in a corrugated shack, with dirt floors, no electricity, no running water, etc. Quit your whining because your car got repossessed. ( which you also could not afford. ) Nobody cares. Get off your butt and make something happen.

So grow up everyone, take responsibility for your own actions, life, results and dreams. Your country needs you. Do you have the courage to heed the call?

To your success.
