How to Add a Frame to a Mirror

    • 1). Measure the length of each side of a rectangular, wall-mounted, frameless mirror.

    • 2). Purchase wood stock for the frame from a lumber yard or home improvement store.

    • 3). Determine the thickness of your frame based on your style preferences and any limitations imposed by the mirror's location.

    • 4). Designate four pieces of wood to serve as the left side, right side, top and bottom sections of the frame. Cut the top and bottom pieces to extend the width of the mirror plus the combined width of the two side pieces of wood. Cut the side pieces to extend the height of the mirror and to fit snugly between the top and bottom pieces.

    • 5). Cut a rectangular recess, a rabbet, along the back length of each section of the frame. Use a router with a rabbet bit, or a table saw, to create the rabbet. Set the depth of the rabbet to equal the mirror's thickness. Set the width of the rabbet at the amount you want the frame to overlap the mirror's edges.

    • 6). Paint or stain the sections of wood. Set aside the wood pieces until the paint or stain cures.

    • 7). Mix fast-setting epoxy according to the manufacturer's directions. Apply a thin coat of epoxy to the back of the wood sections. Press the wood in position on the mirror. Support the wood in place with low-adhesive tape. Remove the tape after the recommended glue drying time.
