    Decoupage

    • Decoupage is a favorite among crafters who like to work with a bit of glue and cut out images, and it offers you a simple way to decorate your baby's walls with images from your favorite children's books or magazines. Start a decoupage craft by cutting out your favorite images. If you don't have enough illustrations to cover the wall, have copies made of them. Next, mix some water and glue together in a bowl, using equal parts of each. Spread some of the glue mix on the wall using a large sponge brush. Stick your cut out illustrations on the wall and allow them to dry. Cover the illustrations with two or three coats of the craft glue until it's dry. If you want to personalize the room for your baby, hand draw and photocopy illustrations for his decoupage wall decorations. The decoupage offers you a good alternative to wallpaper.

    Photo Gallery

    • Turn your photos of your baby into a wall decoration for her room. Start with some of your favorite photos of your baby. Have the photos retouched to give them a soft look or convert them into sepia-toned photos. Create a focal wall by painting the wall in contrasting colors such as a pink wall with a chocolate brown border. Hang the photos above the baby's bed, but out of reach. To create visual interest, add a decorative pattern to the border such as a fleur di lis pattern; paint the same pattern on the corners of the picture frames.

    Character Themes

    • Character theme murals allow you to create large wall decoration for your baby's room. If you choose this decorating option, choose characters such as Winnie the Pooh or stylized cowboys. These characters usually wear brightly colored outfits that will translate well into a wall mural design. Once you choose which character you'll paint on the wall, select the other decorative elements for the room based on the colors and styles of the character you're painting.

    Considerations

    • When choosing wall decorations for your baby's room, keep in a mind a couple of pieces of advice that will keep your baby safe. If you're going to push the crib against the mural wall, make sure you use non-toxic paint. Always hang any decorations higher than the baby can reach and ensure that you've securely fastened each decoration to the wall. If you're in doubt about that, avoid hanging heavy items such as picture frames above your baby's bed. If they fall, they won't land on him in his bed.
