    Study Facial Details

    • 1). Review your reference picture of an anime character. Observe how the eyes, nose, mouth, and hair are drawn. Study how large the eyes are and how far apart they are spaced from one another. Do the same for the nose and mouth. Observe the hair and how its outline is drawn.

    • 2). Sketch these features quickly onto drawing paper. Do not try to create a finished drawing. Practice drawing the basic features of the face. Sketch the eyes, nose and mouth in various ways. Press lightly with your pencil and work quickly.

    • 3). Draw patterns of anime hair. Use different pencil strokes and try different hair lengths. Be creative in your designs and sketch quickly. Do not erase while sketching, focus on memorizing hair patterns and lengths.

    • 4). Review your reference picture and continue to practice drawing facial features until you feel confident to create your own anime face.

    Create Your Anime Face

    • 1). Create the rough draft of your anime face by drawing a circle lightly with your pencil. Draw a vertical line down the middle of the circle. Extend the line past the bottom of the circle to map out the chin of your anime character.

    • 2). Sketch two horizontal guidelines across your vertical line to map out your character's eyes, make sure the guidelines rest on the middle to lower part of your circle. Draw two more horizontal lines along your vertical line below your circle. Have one line touch the circle's bottom and the other spaced about a quarter of an inch down from the circle.

    • 3). Add the facial details of your anime character. Sketch the eyes between the horizontal guidelines in your circle. Lightly sketch the character's chin by drawing lines from the outsides of the circle and connecting them to your vertical guideline drawn below. Sketch the mouth and nose of your anime character by following the horizontal guidelines drawn below your circle.

    • 4). Draw the ears, neck and hair of your character. Draw the ears slightly below your character's eyes. Create the neck by drawing lines extending from opposite sides of your character's chin. Keep the neck thin for a feminine look and broad for a masculine look. Draw the hair by following the outline of your character's head and eyes. Use zigzag lines to create spiky, anime hair.

    • 5). Erase the guidelines made previously and correct any mistakes you find in your drawing. Darken your anime face by pressing hard over your lines with a pencil. Look over your drawing a final time and adjust any facial details desired.

    • 6). Ink your drawing using a black pen. Work slowly and erase all pencil markings for a clean, professional look. Add shading with your pen by using a cross hatching method to complete your Anime face.
