How to Draw a Turkey Feather
- 1). Draw a long line, the length that you would like the feather to be, to represent the shaft of the feather. Thicken the shaft a bit, either by thickening the line of the shaft, or by drawing a second line parallel to the first, just beside the first line, and connecting them.
- 2). Draw a narrow oval centered over the line, but leave approximately 1/5 of the line poking out the end of the oval. This is the soft part of the feather, attached to the shaft. The oval should narrow to a point over the feather at the end where the shaft pokes out from it. At the other end, the oval should be rounded.
- 3). Shade the soft part of the feather in stripes, starting at the narrow end of the soft part of the feather. Do this by placing your pencil on the feather and running it back and forth, from one side of the feather to the other, in small rows. The stripes should be wide enough that you can fit about 15 of them on a feather, with a space in between each stripe approximately the same width as the stripe itself. The stripes should be kind of jagged--not completely straight or smooth.
- 4). Draw a few little, stray curly lines at the narrow end of the feather's soft part. These lines should be poking out of the shaft.
