    • 1). Click the "Start" button, followed by "Control Panel" (if using Windows XP, hover your mouse over "Settings" after clicking "Start," then select "Control Panel"). In a moment, the Control Panel window loads on the computer screen.

    • 2). Double-click the "System" icon in Control Panel and click the "Hardware" tab. Select "Device Manager." The Device Manager window loads onto the screen.

    • 3). Scroll through the list of hardware until you find "Universal Serial Bus Controllers." Click the "+" button next to it.

    • 4). Search for any USB port marked "Enhanced." This means the USB port is 2.0. However, if no "Enhanced" is found, the drive is USB 1.1.
