How to Use Hanging Storage Units
- 1). Choose the hanging units that you need for your items. There are a variety of storage units available, such as units that hang from doors or from walls.
- 2). Select a place to hang the storage unit. This is typically based on factors such as where the unit is supposed to hang and if the unit will be in the way of foot traffic.
- 3). Build the storage units according to their directions. Use the installation kit provided to assemble the units. You may need a drill, hammer or both in order to properly assemble the units.
- 4). Use a studsensor to find a stud to install the storage unit on if your storage unit requires a wall mounting. Note that some units may not require installation on a stud. Consult your manual to see whether your units do.
- 5). Hang the unit on a wall or ceiling using the materials provided (screws, nails or adhesive). Level the units until they are straight by using a ruler or a leveling device to determine if they are on straight.
- 6). Decide what you will use the storage unit for. If you have an abundance of a specific item, such as CDs, DVDs or electronic items, you may want to fill the cabinet with these items. Note that some hanging storage units are made specifically for certain types of items.
- 7). Test the weight capacity of the storage unit by adding items to it. Add items one at a time until you feel comfortable with the weight that the unit can handle. Once this is done, you may place the items you want to store in it.
