What I Saw in Awaran; Balochistan During Relief Campaign

Volunteers faced difficulties due to scarcity of food, electricity provision in earthquake affected Awaran; Balochistan. Alkhair trust welfare foundation camp was not only like blessing for other charity organizations in the area but also it provided ration and food to affected families as well as volunteers. Crisis was increasing of Awaran residents and with the passage of time diseases were also spreading to far and wide. In Mushkay, there was a clear lack of water and according to the doctors affected people were falling into diseases because of drinking polluted water. Water was taken from well in Mushkay that were already filled up with dust and that people found argument to drink dirty water from streams and channels where people were to drink rainy water. According to Dr. Ameerzada of Alkhair Trust camp at Mushkay, dysentery, diarrohea, whereas they are facing famine. Paramedical staff teams with specialist doctors at Alkhair Trust camps was checking up and providing first aid to affected families from seasonal diseases. Volunteers would spend the night at Alkhair Trust camps. Alkhair Trust was the only welfare or charity organization that reached Awaran at the first place. Alkhair Trust foundation provided ready cooked food. After maghrib prayer, it was hard to continue rescue and relief service in earthquake affected area and it was a major concern that lest volunteers should catch malaria and other diseases due to rampant of mosquitoes in the air. There was no restaurant or hotel with meal service at district Aawaran.

A chittai restaurant was only there to serve only lunch because neither breakfast nor dinner would serve anywhere in Awaran. For volunteers, it was the tough time to spend the whole night in mosques and open areas without electricity and the most part of the night they would fight with mosquitoes to get the nice sleep. Even there was no electricity in the rest house of district management. Only few hours supply from hours was reserved for the electricity during which volunteers hardly charged their cell phones.
