How to Remove Latex Paint From Unfinished Wood
- 1). Scrape off as much of the latex paint as possible with the edge of a plastic scraper. Do not use metal scrapers as these can scratch unfinished wood.
- 2). Add several drops of liquid dish soap to a cup of hot water. Mix until the water is sudsy.
- 3). Dip a cloth into the mixture and wring it out as much as possible so that it is just slightly damp.
- 4). Rub the cloth over the latex paint mark on the unfinished wood. Keep the soapy solution off of areas around the stain. Because the wood is unfinished, it is susceptible to warping and rotting if you soak it with water.
- 5). Dip a toothbrush into the mixture if the paint stain is still visible.
- 6). Gently scrub the stain with the toothbrush until you've removed as much of the latex paint as possible.
- 7). Mix ¾ cup rubbing alcohol with ¼ cup lemon juice if the latex paint is still visible.
- 8). Dip a toothbrush into the mixture and scrub away the latex paint mark.
- 9). Wipe the area with a cloth that has been slightly dampened with water. This will rinse away the soapy solution.
- 10
Let the unfinished wood air dry completely. - 11
Gently sand the area with fine sandpaper if the stain is still visible. Sand with even pressure with the grain until you've removed the paint mark. - 12
