How to Remove Log Off From the Start Menu
- 1). Click on "Start" or the Windows orb logo on the taskbar at the bottom of the desktop to open the Windows Start menu. Select "Run" from the menu, which will open a dialog box. Type in "regedit" and then click the "OK" button to open the Registry editor.
- 2). Click on the "+" (plus) sign to expand the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" folder in the left pane of the Registry Editor. Click the plus sign next to following folders to expand and view the next folder: "Software," "Microsoft," "Windows," "CurrentVersion" and "Policies."
- 3). Click on the "Explorer" folder to reveal its contents in the right pane.
- 4). Right-click a blank space in the right pane to see a pop-up menu. Select "New," and then select "DWORD Value" from the submenu. Wait for a new entry to populate under the "Name" column.
- 5). Type in "StartMenuLogoff" (without quotation marks) to name the DWORD Value, and then press the "Enter" key on the keyboard.
- 6). Right-click on the new entry labeled "StartMenuLogoff" to reveal a pop-up menu. Select "Modify" from the menu to open a dialog box.
- 7). Type the number "1" in the text box labeled "Value data," and then click the "OK" button to remove the "Log Off" button from the Start menu. Exit the Registry editor.
