    • In the spring of 2004, palmOne released a stylish new addition to its Zire series, one of the first generations of handheld personal digital assistants to have a color display. Palm's Zire series was conceived as consumer device, making the Zire 72 a good option for students, travelers and people looking to get organized.

    Exterior Hardware

    • The Palm Zire 72 measures 4.6 inches long, 3 inches wide and .68 inches deep It weighs about 5 oz., has a cobalt blue metallic finish on its face and a stainless steel theme on its back. The LCD menu is navigated by a rounded square control pad with a center button. On its back, a steel mesh plate encloses the speaker and the camera lens. The USB port can be found on the center of the bottom edge, while the memory card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, and the power button are located on the top of the device. The Zire 72 also includes a stylus pen, housed in a slot on its right side.

    Interior Hardware

    • The Zire 72's 320 X 320 pixel, 16 bit display is powered by an Intel PXA270 processor at 312 Mhz and 32 megabytes of RAM. The power source is a rechargeable lithium polymer battery. The Zire comes with a USB sync cable, an AC charger, a carrying case and an installation disc.

    Software

    • Zire 72's interface is supported by the Palm Operating System version 5.2.8, and can run the following applications: Acrobat Reader, Addit, Audible Player Calculator, Calendar, Contacts, Documents To Go, Expense, Handmark's Solitaire, Media, Note Pad, palmOne Messages, Palm Reader, powerOne Personal Calculator, Tasks, Versa Mail, Web Pro, World Clock and Java Supper. The device comes with Palm Desktop, which is compatible with both Mac and Windows.
