How to Replace Damaged Shingles

    • 1). Get yourself to the roof safely and carefully. Climb your ladder carefully, and have someone spot you if possible.

    • 2). Locate the damaged shingle. Using the pry bar, lift the shingle immediately above the damaged one.

    • 3). Slowly wiggle the damaged shingle until it comes free. Discard it.

    • 4). Remove as many of the leftover nails as you can. Hammer whatever nails remain until they're flush with the sheathing of the roof.

    • 5). Prepare the area for a new shingle by repairing any holes with roofing cement. Apply the cement with the caulk gun, and spread it with the putty knife. Also cover any nails you hammered flush with cement.
