How to Make Swim Platform Floats

    • 1). Choose a design for the swim platform. Keep in mind how many people on average will be using the platform at any given time. For instance, a platform used by six people should measure roughly 6 feet by 6 feet. The larger the platform, the more money and materials will be needed.

    • 2). For a 6-foot by 6-foot platform, you'll need a total of 30 2-inch by 4-inch boards. Lay out four of the 2-inch by 4-inch boards in a square frame, making sure each piece is 6 feet long. Drill each of the ends together. Place an additional 2-inch by 4-inch board in the middle of the frame lengthwise and screw it to the frame pieces. This reinforces the frame and floor.

    • 3). Lay the additional 2-inch by 4-inch boards on top of the frame, so they create what looks like a floor. Make sure all ends are flush with the outside of the frame. Begin nailing the floor pieces onto the frame at one end of the frame, making your way to the other end. Allow for a small, 1/2-inch gap between each board--they will expand when in the water. Place a nail in the middle across the additional middle 2-inch by 4-inch board for extra support.

    • 4). Flip the platform over so the floor side is facing the ground. Place an airtight plastic barrel on each side of the middle 2-inch by 4-inch board. Wrap a metal strap around each barrel. Screw the strap down to the bottom of the floor. Use 1-inch screws so they do not protrude through the floor. Place the platform face up in water and leave it for an hour to make sure it can float properly. Install an anchor hook to one side of the platform using a drill and screws, and attach an anchor to keep the platform in place.
